A colleague and his wife learned some alarming news just before midnight Friday. The firefighters who visited their home said that smoke detectors and fire alarms have a “best by” date.
After a decade, it time to replace them. All of his eight alarms were made in 2001 and were well beyond their best by date.
It is a good time to check the manufacture dates on your smoke detectors and fire alarms. If it was a decade ago, replace them. If it was less than 10 years ago, enter the 10 year mark on your electronic calendar as a reminder to replace them then.
Thank you Ross for sharing your story – and for saving us from waking to the frightening sound of shrieking alarms.
