Each year about 1 in 10 seniors age 60+ is abused. And yet, abuse of elders is significantly underreported, only about 1 in every 23 cases.
A new Elder Justice resource came online this week. This US Department of Justice website targets abuse and financial exploitation of the elderly.
One section is for victims and their loved ones. Simply enter the zip code to get information on local resources. There are extensive Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
Professionals who work with the elderly will find resources on how to prevent elder abuse and exploitation and also information on how to help those who have become victims.
For prosecutors, there are federal, state, and local sample pleadings.
On the lower right side is a signup to receive updates.
This website is a broad-based resource to use in protecting elders from elder abuse and exploitation and caring for them if they are victims.
