Digital Property

July 18, 2013 by Deborah Matthews

If you are reading this, you are likely the owner of digital property.

Digital property is very broad – e-mail, texts, social media posts, online accounts, videos, passwords and IDs to access sites, your data on shopping, financial and other sites, electronic documents, online backups, photo collections, and more.

In this article, I and my co-authors, Sharon Nelson and John Simek, look at the new frontier of digital property – what it is, what can happen if you become incapacitated or die, and some options for managing your digital property. Click here for the full article.

And I extend my warmest congratulations to my friend and colleague Sharon who was just sworn in as President of the Virginia State Bar. You can read more about President Nelson here.
