Get A Car Insurance Discount, But You’ll Get Carded

July 8, 2014 by Deborah Matthews

Headline of Insurance, Life; Health, car, travel, for background

Many complain that with turning 50 they started to get mail from AARP.  Maybe the news that taking AARP Smart Driver™ Course can reduce the cost of car insurance will leave a more favorable impression.

In Virginia, DC, and 32 other states, if you take the AARP course in a classroom, your insurance company is legally mandated to discount your auto insurance premium.  (Maryland has not made the discounts mandatory.)

Another option for residents of Virginia, DC, and 21 other states is to take the course online in order to be eligible for the discount.

In either case, be sure to check with your insurance agent for additional information.

For a list of the states, see http://www.aarp.org/home-garden/transportation/info-05-2010/auto_insurance_discounts.html
